Alma Jeftić gave a lecture at IUS

The lecture "Being a student in a foreign country: Main obstacles and challenges" was organized at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) on Monday, November 17, 2014. It was based on the survey that Senior Assistant at the Psychology Program, Alma Jeftić conducted with the students of Psychology Program during semesters of the 2013/2014 academic year.

As part of the research, experience of Turkish students at IUS has been the subject of this analysis, as well as implications for the development of appropriate systems for support, all in accordance with their needs. 542 students participated in the questionnaire and gave their answers which defined their greatest obstacles, problems and strategies of coping with different problems. The three most frequent obstacles were: money/finance distance from family and a foreign language.

During the lecture, Alma Jeftić spoke about the most common problems students face concerning the learning styles and new responsibilities (time management and finance, distribution of tasks). The students’ recommendations for the organization of the university and Student center were analyzed for future application.
