HE Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kavas

Ahmet Kavas held a lecture at IUS

On 15th of May 2014, HE Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kavas, Ambassador of Republic of Turkey to Republic of Chad gave a lecture: ‘’Impoverishment Process of Wealthy Africa’’ in IUS amphitheatre. Lecture was about how Wealthy Africa was impoverished. Africa today is the name of a huge continent, but in history, Africa was used to refer to local provinces in North Africa.

After introduction regarding history and geography of the continent, HE Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kavas gave many interesting fact about this region and its potentials. We often think rich underground resources are not all what Africa has. In reality, this is only a small portion compared to real wealth. Africa has a great potential and it is related to its people.

HE Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kavas continued his speech by referring to the role and strategies of great powers today. Around 60% of the uncultivated lands of the world are in Africa. However, the region has a very nutritious soil. World great economic powers seeing this potential today buy most of these lands; however this is just a new way of colonization. His speech was appreciated by students and the lecture ended with question and answer session.
