Admir Ferhatović and Ali Husić - Hackathon

Admir Ferhatović and Ali Husić won Hackathon

Admir Ferhatović and Ali Husić, freshman students at the Department of Software Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS)  at IUS teamed up to win this year's Hackathon “Night of the living devs” held on 11th and 12th of December 2015 in Sarajevo. The Hackathon attracted more than 20 teams, mainly students of Computer Science and Software Engineering from different universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was a 24 hour long software developing contest sponsored by „Microsoft BiH“, „Authority Partners“, “Hub 387”, „Red Bull“, „Academy 387“. The competition was hosted by Almin Halilović and Eldar Granulo at “Hub 387”. The teams' applications were graded in separate categories of innovation, visual design and technical implementation. Admir Ferhatović and Ali Husić developed an application which won the first place in the category of technical implementation and even entered the top ten in the category of innovation.

Their application, “DrugEd”, was developed for raising awareness of narcotic use and its devastating effects on society. The application supports adding anonymous users’ drug experiences in order to discourage potential drug use. DrugEd was developed with modern, cutting edge flexible technologies and techniques. Its development was divided into a flexible server-side part and a client application for the new Microsoft platform.

The success of our students is a fruit of their talent and hard work and we expect again in the future nice surprises from their side. Ali Husić is also an active member of BHOI ( and he prepared this summer the Bosnian team for the Olympics in Informatics for elementary school pupils held last September in Ohrid in Macedonia where they won a bronze medal. All technical and educative information about the application will be presented on Friday, 25th of December 2015 at IUS together with the solutions for last week online competition organized by BHOI.
