5. geekFEST: The 4th Industrial Revolution Led by Dr. Jasminka Hasić Telalović

On November 27, 2018, the presentation of applications which were made during 5. geekFEST was held at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS).

High school and university students from Sarajevo, Tuzla, Hadzici, Travnik and Gorazde, together with the project coordinator Dr. Jasminka Hasić Telalović worked on applications from November 25 to 27, in which the focus was on raising awareness of air pollution.

The applications they made were customized to the needs of residents, in order to inform them of how much air is polluted and how to conduct. Apps were also customized to the needs of visually impaired people.

The data used in the applications comes with the most modern pollution measuring device installed in the Sarajevo US Embassy.

This device made it possible for the first time to have data on PM 2.5 pollution in Sarajevo. For these data there is the most scientific evidence about the harmful effect on health, so it is important that the public is informed.

At the beginning, Dr. Mehmed Ganić, Vice Rector of IUS, expressed his satisfaction that Dr. Hasić motivates and encourages young people in the IT sector.

The entire project, as well as the previous one, was supported by the US Embassy in BiH. The presentations of projects were also attended by Ms Ellen Germain, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo, who expressed her satisfaction with the project.

Other speakers were also Haris Pinjo, CISCO Regional Partner Manager, and Omar Krivošija, Microsoft Country Manager.

The event was attended by representatives of NGOs and the government sector as well as a large number of IUS staff and students.

The participants were divided into three groups, and each group was evaluated. Participants and in the project were: Ajdin Ahmetović, Lejla Omerović, Ali Husić, Sead Smailagić, Selma Kovačević, Ines Madžak, Nedim Sladić, Mirela Musić, Kemal Hrelja, Lejla Hodžić, Ermin Šabotić, Melika Hodžić and Adin Ćebić.

All the participants were awarded certificates on behalf of American Embassy, and the winners (Adin Ćebić, Kemal Hrelja i Ali Husić) won GoPro cameras.

"I thank the participants and participants, as well as the US Embassy for another IT magic. I thank the IUS staff for their presence and support to the project. It is my satisfaction to implement such projects that celebrate the talent of our youth. I look forward to seeing these young men and women as leaders in our society, "coordinator of the geekFEST project Dr. Jasminka Hasić.
