On December 5, 2023, Associate Professor Dr. Joseph J. Kaminski from Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) study program at the Faculty of Business and Administration (FBA), hosted a workshop titled “Getting your manuscript published by a major international publisher: How to write a successful academic book proposal” that walked participants through the publication process.
Dr. Kaminski also shared key sections from his previous manuscript proposals that could be readily incorporated into anyone’s particular topic area. His presentation included some important tips for how to get the attention of an acquisitions editor who may not be familiar with your previous work. One of his overarching claims was that getting your proposal accepted requires knowledge of what the academic book publishing industry is all about: marketability and sales potential. Certain sections of one’s proposal are more important than others, and the most important ones probably are not what most people would expect. His presentation aimed to clarify which sections authors should focus on when writing their proposals.
Following his presentation, there was a 15-minute Q&A session for all those in attendance. Academic staff and graduate students attended the event.
