Two Book Promotions Held at IUS

On December 26, 2022, IUS Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) organized a promotion of two books at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS): “Roof Constructions - An Illustrated Introduction” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Edin Jahić and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tomasz Malec and “The Western Balkans - Cooperation, Geopolitics and Economic Transitions and Relations” by Prof. Dr. Muhidin Mulalić, Asst. Prof. Dr. Jahja Muhasilović and Prof. Dr.  Emel Topcu. The publication of the books was supported through the projects of the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Canton Sarajevo.

The book “Roof Constructions - An Illustrated Introduction” deals with research regarding roof construction, as well as recent developments and innovative technology introduced in this field. The authors of the book underlined roof construction types including classic roofs, green roofs, but also mentioned cutting-edge technology that is essential for all types of roof construction. Prof. Malec emphasized that this book will help students develop their skills as architects by expanding their vision in designing their future projects.  

Professor Mulalić presented the book “The Western Balkans - Cooperation, Geopolitics and Economic Transitions and Relations” and explained the importance of investing in research and development in different industries, networking, green agendas and digitalization that would be significant for geopolitical and economic transitions and relations. He compared research investments in the EU and the region stressing that the EU invests around 2.37% of their GDP in research, compared to around 0.42% in Serbia and only around 0.21% in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Asst. Prof. Dr. Jahja Muhasilović added that this book stands as a guidebook for everyone interested in learning more about cultural cooperation in the Western Balkans by offering methods to improve bilateral relations and contribute to the development of the region.

At the end of the event, the attendees had an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about these important topics related to architecture and international relations.
