Pledge of Support to IUS by Chairman of Sarajevo Cantonal Assembly Mr. Elvedin Okerić

Visit by Mr. Okerić

In a promising move towards strengthening the higher educational sector in Sarajevo, the Chairman of the Sarajevo Cantonal Assembly, Mr. Elvedin Okerić, paid a visit to the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) today. The visit marked an essential step in addressing the administrative and technical challenges faced by the university, with a shared commitment to further enhancing its efficiency.

Upon his arrival, Mr. Okerić was warmly welcomed by the IUS Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yıldırım, and Assistant Prof. Dr. Jasmin Šutković. The focal point of the meeting was to engage in a constructive dialogue about the issues that have been impeding the university's operations and to explore collaborative solutions.

During the meeting, Mr. Okerić expressed his unwavering commitment to supporting IUS in overcoming the obstacles it currently faces. Recognizing the potential and importance of the university in Sarajevo's educational landscape, he pledged full support to resolve these issues and foster the development of the International University of Sarajevo.

One of the significant initiatives discussed during the meeting is the partnership between the Sarajevo Cantonal Assembly and the Sarajevo Cantonal Government to support IUS in initiating and implementing start-up projects. This collaboration promises to provide invaluable assistance and mitigation to the university, ensuring that it can continue to innovate and offer world-class education to its students.

In addition to this, Chairman Okerić pledged to address the formal and legal obstacles that hinder the employment of university and high school students without them losing their student status. This bold step towards student employment will be achieved through amendments to current legislation, facilitated by the support of the Cantonal Ministry of Economy. Removing these barriers will not only benefit the students by offering them real-world work experience but will also contribute to the region's economic growth.

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yıldırım expressed his gratitude for Mr. Okerić's visit and his pledges of support. He emphasized the importance of such collaborations in elevating the standards of education and creating a favorable environment for students. With a shared vision for a more efficient and dynamic university, both parties are set to work together to realize their goals.
