On Thursday, November 16, 2023, students of the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), led by Assistant Professor Dr. Ismar Alagić, lecturer in Introduction to Manufacturing Systems; Machine Elements; Strength Materials I and Energy Conversion Technologies, and Dr. Enes Kazagić, instructor in Energy Conversion Technologies, paid a visit to energy facilities owned by Elektroprivreda BiH in the Herzegovina region. Visits were made to the Hydro Power Plant “Jablanica” and the wind farm at the Podveležje location near Mostar.
During the visit, the students were introduced to the technologies used in generating and distributing energy, the management and maintenance of power plants, as well as the tasks assigned to engineers working in the power plants. Special interest was shown in the competencies that young engineers should possess and their proficiency in using software support, which they learn about during their studies and laboratory classes at IUS.
Prof. Alagić stated, "This is one in a series of visits that we organize for students who attend courses I teach, with the aim to provide them with better training to handle technologies that require the highest world standards and to better prepare them for the competitive workforce market. Our partnership with major companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, such as Elektroprivreda BiH, is very important to us. I am particularly pleased that our next visit is planned to the Kakanj Thermal Power Plant, where students will have the opportunity to get a closer look at the technologies of the production and distribution of electricity obtained from fossil fuels. I am especially pleased that students are very interested in this form of combined education between the university and representatives of industry and the business community. This is the path that IUS is taking, and in the upcoming period, we expect a significant number of our students to spend their internships and work in the industry during the summer break, which will equip them all the challenges when using the most modern technologies around us. The special focus of our visit to the locations in Herzegovina is placed on the preparation and implementation of projects using renewable energy sources. We would like to thank the representatives of Elektroprivreda BiH for their kind and warm welcome, as well as their expressed interest in future cooperation with IUS."
