With the commitment to advancing education in Bosnia and Herzegovina and establishing closer collaboration, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yıldırım, the Rector of the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), led a delegation to visit the newly elected Minister of Science, Higher Education, and Youth of Canton Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Adna Mesihović.
Accompanied by Mr. Armin Kerić, the Director of the Foundation for Education Development Sarajevo (SEDEF), and Mr. Jahja Imamović, IUS Deputy Secretary General, the IUS delegation was warmly welcomed by Minister Mesihović, Assistant Minister for Science Ms. Azemina Njuhović, Assistant Minister for Higher Education Ms. Dženita Viteškić, and Ministry Secretary Ms. Elvira Šuta.
During the meeting, Rector Yildirim extended his congratulations to Minister Mesihović on her recent appointment and conveyed his best wishes for success in her future endeavors. The Rector took the opportunity to apprise the Minister of the ongoing activities at IUS, particularly highlighting the imminent reaccreditation process.
One of the key points discussed was the challenges faced by the university in attracting foreign students to Bosnia and Sarajevo. Rector Yildirim shed light on the bureaucratic hurdles associated with the issuance of long-stay student visas, emphasizing the need for streamlined procedures to facilitate the influx of international students. In this context, he underscored the significance of transforming Sarajevo into a regional education hub and sought the Ministry's assistance in promoting this idea.
The conversation also focused on the international recognition of local diplomas, an essential aspect for graduates seeking global opportunities. Furthermore, the delegation and Minister Mesihović explored the implementation of projects co-financed by the Ministry, demonstrating a shared commitment to enhancing the academic landscape.
The current Law on Higher Education and the upcoming activities regarding the adoption of a new law were also on the agenda. The Minister assured the IUS delegation of full support, recognizing the university's substantial efforts in bolstering the internationalization of both the university and the canton.
